Applicants must complete a standard test at one of the many testing locations available in North and South Dakota.  This test may be taken at any time but will be valid for 1 year.  To register for the test go to the web site https://www.empco.net/dakota and follow the instructions to set up an account and schedule a test.

****For the position of Deputy Sheriff, you must take the Deputy Sheriff exam!  For the Correctional Officer position we will accept either the Corrections Officer exam or the Deputy Sheriff exam.  If you would like to be considered for future Deputy Sheriff positions at this or other agencies, please take the Deputy exam regardless of the current position open.  If you are specifically interested in working in corrections at this or another agency, you should choose to take the Corrections Officer exam.

The applicant test can be taken at sites such as the University of South Dakota in Vermillion as well as other locations listed on the web site.  There is a fee to take the examination.  You will be prompted to list agencies which you would like to receive your scores.  Please make sure to choose the Clay County Sheriff's Office so that we can consider you for employment.

 Good Luck!
